So much better now…

24 07 2008

We’re still broke, but not needing to fork over three months worth of mortgage payments! The Husband has contacted the mortgage company and we’re in the process of getting an alternative payment schedule going.

I’m also currently looking for part time work so that I can at least pay for the gas in my car, and maybe help pay for the heating oil we’ll be needing this winter. If I knew I could make a decent wage, I’d spin more yarn and sell that. But from what I’ve been able to find out, it’s really hard to do. I’d also love to do some fiber processing, but I definitely don’t have the funds to open shop. Anyone in Southern Maryland need some help from a crafty person?

Now for a little bit of fun… Over on Ravelry, in the Completely Pointless and Arbitrary Group Group, we’ve been doing a little pirate and ninja themed swap. I got my package on Monday from Heidi(aka MissMoo).

pirate package 1

The yarn (if you can make it out underneath the sheepy tissues and envelope) is Berroco Jasper in a blend of reds and black with a bit of natural cream color, and I’ve already started knitting with it. I’m trying to make a mitered hat, but we’ll see…

merino superwash

And this is some superwash Merino roving that was tucked under the yarn! Yum! I’ve got to finish spinning the little bit of black alpaca I was able to salvage from the moth eaten fleece I bought back in November before I spin this… Must get more bobbins for my wheel…

Here’s my Ravelry Caffeine Addicts Swap package:

caffeine swap

It’s two packages of coffee beans from rosters in Anchorage, AK, a Starbuck’s mug, a skein of STR lightweight, two skeins of Shibui Knits Sock, a sock pattern from Fiber Trends, a bag of blueberry biscotti (also from Anchorage), and a little tin of Bee Bar lotion

NY Sock Exchange

This was from my NY Sock Exchange pal. Nice socks knit from some Zen Strings Serendipity in the Strawberry Fields Forever colorway, and some Fleece Artists Kid Mohair roving in gorgeous pink. The roving’s been spun into a single, now I just need to ply it with my cashmere/silk that I’ve been spinning forever. Not shown in the picture is the really yummy teas, the cute little teapot tea ball for brewing the tea, and some spinning wheel oil for my Lendrum.

And because they are super cute:

I just got a package from the swap in the Caffeine Addicts group on Ravelry. I got some really great stuff from Heather, aka ArcticKnitter. I’ll try posting a better description and photos tomorrow.

I’m going to brew up some of the coffee sent before I go get some color done on my tattoo tonight…

I have no life…

As knitting and spinning goes, I’ve made good progress on my first sock for the NY Sock Exchange. I finished and blocked my Sagittaria shawl (I’ll get photos either later this week or this weekend), and started knitting a halter top to wear when I get my next tattoo done on my back in a couple of weeks.

Spinning is put on hold, as I had a part break and I’m waiting for the part to arrive from Toni at the Fold. I was so happy to find that she had the part and gives it away (another site charged for the part as well as postage). I’m definitely going to visit her stall at MDSWF next May!

Not much else going on. If anyone has advise for potty training a very headstrong three year old girl (Evalyn), I’d love to hear it! She knows she needs to use the potty, and knows she gets treats for using it, but she only does once or twice a day. At the rate she’s going, Tori will be potty trained before her.

Friday update

14 09 2007

Okay. So I’m still working on my Sagittaria shawl that I was trying to have finished for the county fair (should have submitted it on Wednesday), but I ended up sick. I’m still suffering from some sniffles.

Our trip to Richmond was a blast. I so love the yarn shops there (we went to the Yarn Lounge and Lettuce Knit). Next door to the Yarn Lounge is a cool toy shop called World of Mirth. The Husband took Evalyn there while I browsed the yarn. Unfortunately, Evalyn’s constant companion Giraffalo went missing while there, but was later “found” at a Hallmark store, clean and a different color.

As the Husband said I had free reign at the yarn stores, I was going to buy yarns for sweaters I’ve been planning on knitting up. However I forgot to write down yarn requirements, so I got sock yarn instead.

sock yarn 2

The yarn on the left is the Fleece Artist 2/6 Merino I got in the Ravelry Summer Camp Swap. The yarn in the middle is Rio de la Plata Merino Sock (I actually purchased two different skeins, but one is for a “stealth sock” project for the NY Sock Exchange.) and on the right is some Pagewood Farm S/W Merino in Vineyard Blues (custom dyed for the Yarn Lounge)

Oh and speaking of the Ravelry swap… Here are pictures of the package I recieved from Linda, AKA Deliriousduckie.

Summer camp packageAll pretty wrapped up… and…

Summer camp package 2Opened up. Evalyn loved the chocolate (I shared with her as a potty training incentive). The Fleece Artist is destined to be these.

Yes. I am working on socks, but not the Charades. I’ve got to get my sock swap pal’s socks done and in the mail by the end of the month. She already knows who I am, but I’m not sure if she visits my blog (Hi, Courtney!) so no photos. I actually got some decent progress done last night before the cold medicine kicked in, and since her feet are quite a bit smaller than mine, they should knit up quick.

Oh, and for cuteness. Here’s a picture of Tori doing something she doesn’t do often enough anymore (nap that is, not just on the floor).

When life gets in the way of blogging…

7 09 2007

Has it really been two weeks since my last post? What have I been up to?

First, my mom visited a few weeks ago. Definately better to have fun with family than to spend time in front of the computer! 🙂 We had tons of fun, even though for the second year in a row we’ve missed out on going to the zoo. Last year was because DC flooded, this year because all Metro parking was full because of road construction. We ended up going to the Oxon Hill Children’s Farm, which for where it’s located is actually pretty neat not to mention chock full of history. I ended up spending a lot of time just waiting for the sheep to come out of their barn. We also visited the Maryland State Fair on opening day. Mom and I spent way more time than we should have waiting to see a big black ram get sheared for judging (just saw the guy get him ready to be sheared, not the actual cutting).

No sock progress this week, but I did get some fab Fleece Artists merino from my Ravelry Summer Camp swap pal as well as some other goodies (I’ll try to get pictures up later this weekend). And in the past two weeks I’ve been working frantically on my Sagittaria shawl to get it finished before the Charles County Fair next Wednesday. Still not quite finished, but I’m working on the edge lace pattern right now, so I’m hoping to be finished this weekend.

The family is heading to Richmond tomorrow so that the Husband can check out a motorcycle dealership, and he’s already promised me that he’d treat me to some fibery goodness. So I’ll be checking out a couple of shops down that way. If anyone has suggestions as to the shop(s) I shouldn’t miss leave me comments…

Friday update

10 08 2007

Okay. I don’t have any pictures of my Charades right now, but I do have one finished and am about 1/3 of the way down the leg of the second sock (I think I’ve hit SSS…).

I do have a few pics of another project. I’ve put my Mystery Stole to the side temporarily to work on another shawl for my Journey to a Shawl project. I won the contest in early July (just after my birthday), and a few weeks ago I got my roving from Cary. I’ve got it all spun up as well as some brown alpaca fleece I had left over from a poorly blended project with buffalo that wasn’t dehaired. I ended up with about 900 yards total of the three different colors.

Sagittaria yarn

I’m knitting it up for the Sagittaria shawl, and I’m thinking of adding some beads to the final lace portion on the outside edge. As far as the colors are going to go. I’ve started with the heathered grey yarn and plan on finishing with the brown.

And next I have a picture of my swap package from the International notions bag swap. I recieved this in the mail on Saturday (I am such a slacker lately…) from Kimberly.

Notions bag package

That’s a lovely handwoven little bag for keeping my little notions together, a pair of sock DPN keepers, a thread/yarn cutter and a magnet from Oklahoma with a thermometer on it (when I brought it in the house it showed the temperature as about 105 degrees). There was also some Burt’s Bees lip balm that has gone missing (I think the Husband has pilfered it, so it didn’t go far).

Oooh! And I can’t forget that it’s Tori’s birthday tomorrow. Hopefully I can get some good shots of Pookie and her first birthday cake!
